Tips for Child Actors and Their Parents!

BY:  Leanne Braman, BFA and M.ed.

My kid is talented!  My kid will be famous!  My kid is 'the next best thing'!  My kid will make millions!

Every parent thinks his child is all of the above, and he is!   This website is going to give parents a glimpse into the entertainment industry for their child from a professional actress' viewpoint.   Please read on.

My name is Leanne Braman and I have been a professional actress in musical theater productions since I was a young girl.  I then attended the Boston Conservatory of Music where I obtained my Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in both drama and musical theater.  In college I sang in a duo all over the northeast with Rudy Roberson, Broadway actor, then went into the television industry.  After receiving my Masters of Education (M.ed.) from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, I pursued my career in both professional theater, teaching on-camera classes, also being hired for many voiceovers, industrials, commercials, video spokesperson jobs, casting consultant/assistant, wardrobe mistress, etc.

I know that parents who want their children to get into this business have been lied to, scammed, cheated out of money, have had false promises and frustrations.

I have auditioned many children and have explained to parents THEIR jobs in having their children pursue this difficult industry.

Depending on the market you're in, the demographic, the child's 'look', his/her persona, his ability to take direction, his ability to read, his ability to 'come alive' in front of the camera or on stage, are all variables that a child needs to hopefully pursue this exciting career.

We've all heard about 'stage moms' and believe me, I've run into a lot of 'stage dads' as well.

Every child needs to be scaffolded, every child needs self-esteem, support and love.

This is a difficult business for anyone.

I have conducted many seminars for parents about the business of television acting for your child.  Now, with the internet, instead of parents attending one of my seminars for $60, me having to rent out a conference room, parents having to take the time away from their child, being in a crowded room without having time to ask specific questions, I am offering my own 'how-tos' for PARENTS which I've written based on all of my above experience.

I don't like to see parents spending a lot of time and money being 'scammed' by fly-by-night model searches or spending hundreds of dollars on needless photos.  Remember, a child grows up very quickly and his look changes every 6 months or so, so the photos that you spend hundreds of dollars on don't emulate the child's look anymore.

As I mentioned, I have taught many on-camera classes for adults and children.

I can help parents be more knowledgable about what to look for in agents, casting directors, helping your child audition, what to wear, how to be prepared, AND what parents can do to facilitate this process.

Approximately 1% of all professional actors make their living in this business.  This is not a business that most people pay all their bills.  IF you want to help your child pursue this business there are many factors that YOU as a parent need to know.

I have written a handbook that will answer a lot of questions parents have in getting their child, hopefully, started in this business.

Important tips for parents and children will be offered, a breakdown of a beginning on-camera acting session will be provided, a resume format, types of photos you may need, wardrobe, tips for breaking down commercial copy, delivery, actual Q&A's from my seminars.

Why pay from $250 to $600 for classes if either the instructor is not qualified, has no curriculum, no rubric, no experience, doesn't understand how the individual student learns, or a class that the child doesn't want to attend?

In this handbook you will learn the process of hopefully obtaining an agent, what a casting call is, how to decipher which casting call to send your child to, how to conduct yourself and help your child in the audition process, how to 'back off' when necessary, and appropriate questions to ask.

This offer is NOT a guarantee that your child will become a star or even be able to pursue this business.   It is a down to earth look from my own experience in working with children and their parents for years.

This handbook helps you understand not only television acting but tips for stage and film acting as well, commercials, industrials, voiceovers, etc.

I have my own curriculum that I have developed over the years that I would like to offer YOU!

When I teach a child for a private session my fee is $75/hr.

Now, you can take advantage of this offer by purchasing this handbook for a VERY low price of only $45.00.  You will be able to use this as a reference guide, study it, help your child with the understanding of the tools in the handbook.

You as a parent know your child best...sometimes parents don't see the potential their child has and sometimes they do, but push too hard to try to make something happen when the child is unhappy or doesn't like to be put 'on the spot'.   Parents, you be the judge.

As I mentioned, this handbook is not a guarantee that your child will be able to pursue the business of acting in the theater or television.  It is a helpful guideline for parents about the business of acting!
